Usability Studies - The Why's and How's
"Usability is a quality attribute that assesses how easy user interfaces are to use. The word "usability" also refers to methods for improving ease-of-use during the design process.
Usability is defined by five quality components:
- Learnability: How easy is it for users to accomplish basic tasks the first time they encounter the design?
- Efficiency: Once users have learned the design, how quickly can they perform tasks?
- Memorability: When users return to the design after a period of not using it, how easily can they reestablish proficiency?
- Errors: How many errors do users make, how severe are these errors, and how easily can they recover from the errors?
- Satisfaction: How pleasant is it to use the design?" (Jakob Nielson - Usability 101)

Open Source CMS - Joomla
One of the core solutions we use at NavigateTomorrow.com is the award winning open source content management system Joomla! (that was a mouthful!)
There are a number reasons we do this:
- We decided long ago that while building a site from scratch still has its value, most of the article/news/blog driven sites we do best fit into a CMS.
- CMS's separate the content from the design - so changing an entire site is pretty simple to do. (We just completed the update of a 3,000 page site by changing two files and uploading some images...)
- CMS's offer a simple user interface for updating and adding new content. (in other words, you won't keep paying an expensive web designer to keep your site up to date.)
